The Studio explores how generative AI and other emerging technologies can strengthen local news and better serve local communities. We share what we learn with the field via practical resources, including playbooks, case studies and product reports.
Our team of industry experts provides hands-on, specialized support and targeted funding to news leaders as they experiment with new ways to connect with their communities, manifesting our driving values of constant learning and concrete impact.
Our learning community gathers regularly to share emerging practices and deepen their product and technical skills.

Just as technology changes are affecting our lives in manifold ways, our collaborations with local newsrooms span a wide variety of use cases.
Enhancing donor research with Centro de Periodismo Investigativo (CPI)
We analyzed more than 6,000 donor records to inform and refine the organization’s fundraising strategy.
Reimagining sales pitches with Sahan Journal
Together we built two custom GPTs about audiences and articles that worked in tandem to produce curated data for advertising and sponsorships.
Developing communications assistance with Open Campus
We built a prototype of an AI tool to support key funder communications. The early experiment revealed a broader opportunity: building a tool that aligns the organization’s communications strategy with its journalism, and the targeted interests of supporters. AJP is now expanding this work by piloting a scaled version of the tool with additional newsrooms.
