The Richmonder

Michael Phillips is the founding editor of The Richmonder, a local news site that launched in September 2024 with a mission to spotlight the best of the community, while keeping a watchful eye on those in power. The Richmonder is a nonprofit that believes accurate, unbiased information creates connection and community.

Before The Richmonder, Phillips spent 16 years at The Richmond Times-Dispatch, serving as a sports reporter, sports editor, senior editor and interim managing editor. He was named the Virginia Sportswriter of the Year in 2022.

He lives in Forest Hill with his wife and two daughters, where he loves hiking, eating, travel and trivia. He is a graduate of the University of Kansas and is originally from Wichita, Kansas.

Beth is new to the nonprofit news space, but is well known in the Richmond area. She spearheaded the construction of the Virginia Capital Trail as its foundation’s executive director, a bike trail that spans 52 miles and connects nearly 400 years of American history between Richmond and Williamsburg.

She also worked for Chamber RVA, the region’s chamber of commerce. At The Richmonder, she will work to introduce new audiences to The Richmonder and its mission through formal and informal events, as well as build out our membership program.
