The Marshall Project

Katrice Hardy lead The Marshall Project, working with staff to develop strong business and editorial strategies that help us continue our years-long efforts to engage and inform communities about the state of the criminal justice system. She has been a journalist for decades, from covering issues that include health and government accountability, to ultimately helping or leading newsrooms in Virginia, South Carolina, Indiana and Texas, as well as working with editorial newsrooms in regions serving the South and Midwest. Over the years, the journalism Hardy has worked on has won a number of notable honors, including IRE, ONA and Goldsmith awards, and a Pulitzer.

Jennifer Peter leads The Marshall Project’s newsroom, overseeing a talented group of journalists focusing their investigative powers on the U.S. criminal justice system, including those most deeply affected by crime and mass incarceration. She has been a journalist for 35 years, bringing an accountability lens to government and political coverage in Idaho, Connecticut, Virginia and Massachusetts. Before joining The Marshall Project in the fall of 2025, Peter worked at The Boston Globe for 20 years. As Metro editor, she led the team that won the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News — and numerous other industry awards — for our coverage of the Boston Marathon bombing. Most recently, as managing editor for eight years, she helped lead a newsroom renowned for its accountability work and successful subscription model.
