Mindy Marqués González

Mindy Marqués González is an award‑winning journalist, editor, and newsroom leader whose career has focused on strengthening public‑service and local news reporting, supporting journalists, and advancing the role of the independent press in a democratic society.

Building on that commitment to rigorous, narrative‑driven journalism, she broadened her editorial reach as Vice President and Executive Editor at Simon & Schuster, where she applied the same standards of depth, accuracy, and public relevance to acquiring and shaping narrative nonfiction. The books she published include Freedom Lost, Freedom Won by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Eugene Robinson and New York Times bestsellers Our Hidden Conversations by award-winning journalist Michele Norris, and Dinners with Ruth by NPR’s Nina Totenberg.

Prior to book publishing, Marqués was publisher and executive editor of the Miami Herald and el Nuevo Herald. Born in New York to Cuban immigrant parents, she began her career as an intern at the Herald, where she developed her grounding in local news, and rose through the ranks to become the paper’s first top Hispanic editor—and only the second woman to hold the role. During her tenure, the Herald won two Pulitzer Prizes and was a finalist four additional times, earning national recognition for investigations into assisted‑living failures, juvenile justice abuses, and the acclaimed investigation into millionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein and his cohorts.

Marqués is a graduate of the University of Florida and an Alumni of Distinction honoree. Her honors include the Presidential Impact Award from the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the Benjamin C. Bradlee Editor of the Year Award. A former co‑chair and member of the Pulitzer Prize Board, she chairs the advisory committee for FIU’s Kopenhaver Center for the Advancement of Women in Communications. Mindy lives in South Florida with her husband and two children.
