Charlottesville Tomorrow is a community-driven, socially conscious news organization that serves its neighbors by connecting them to each other and to the issues that affect them most.
Founded in central Virginia in 2005, Charlottesville Tomorrow covers local democracy, public health and safety, education, land use and housing — and more as it grows.
With the support of the American Journalism Project, Charlottesville Tomorrow is building on its 20-year history of locally funded news by creating products and avenues for supporters to fill the country’s ever-increasing news and information gaps.

Angilee ShahCEO and Editor-and-ChiefAngilee Shah has long experience managing editorial teams and budgets and understanding nonprofit finances through her work as an editor and reporter, as a senior editor building new programming in national and international news, and in management roles at several magazines and websites. She has trained founders and newsroom managers to use budgets to empower their teams and meet their goals, integrating that work into newsroom processes and using them to build diversity and equity into their organizations. She has been at the helm of Charlottesville Tomorrow since April 2023. Shah was selected to join 2024’s Media Transformation Challenge at the Poynter Institute. A graduate of UC Berkeley with a degree in cognitive science (artificial intelligence) and English (world literature), she is passionate about using technology and data well.

Michaux HoodDirector of DevelopmentMichaux Hood has worked independently with local central Virginia and national businesses and nonprofits since 2000, helping clients analyze data using customer relationship management software alongside financial and accounting programs and creating reports that help steward donors' funds well. In 2018, she trained at the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media’s Center for Innovation and Sustainability in Local Media in the Table Stakes program and has presented on fundraising best practices at conferences for the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN) and Local Independent Online News (LION) Publishers. Hood is a Certified Fund Raising Executive through CFRE International.
